Do you live and breathe security? Want to battle villains every day? Need to work on important problems, your way? Atlassian is currently seeking Security Interns to join our growing teams in Sydney.

We're expanding our security capability and looking for smart people to help us in two important areas. You may like to build and run new monitoring/analytics systems. Or perhaps hacking our products and their code is more your thing? As an intern in our security team, you'll be watching over our corporate environment and Atlassian cloud services which host many tens of thousands of customers. More than that, you'll be building new systems, developing automation and crushing security problems you care about. The team is small, so everyone's contribution is vital.

Security Intelligence

We want diverse skill sets and super smart people so we can all learn from each other and do interesting things. We don't just click the same buttons over and over. You will be working along with the product security team - a smart group dedicated to improving the security of our products and engineering practices. We work both independently and in collaboration with development teams as we assess and respond to security issues that might occur with new products and features.

Security Development 

Atlassian helps teams everywhere change the world through the power of software and we are looking for a well-rounded engineer to join Atlassian's security development team. This team is responsible for building and operating mature software systems to support the security intelligence and product security teams, in order to improve the entire company's security posture. You will be supported by robust backend systems, mature protocols, and a passionate team with a vision to build the best platform out there. If you are a strong software developer interested in developing your info security expertise, this role is a rare opportunity to do just that!

Product Security

The Product Security team is responsible for making sure Atlassian products and services are safe. We are looking for a great engineers who thrive on working with development teams to secure their products across the software development lifecycle. Some of our responsibilities include source code auditing, writing automation, running Atlassian's bug bounty, building defences directly into products, and finding ways to empower engineering teams to build secure products by default. Because we work directly on products and write most of our own tools, the ability to code is crucial.

 

Red Team

The Red Team runs offensive operations for the purpose of illuminating the state of our security program. We are looking for someone with an attacker mindset and an interest in building robust and reliable offensive tooling to support our operations. Ideal candidates should bring their own ideas for new techniques in exploitation, persistence, social engineering or other relevant elements of offensive security.  You will get to participate in red team operations, build tools, and hopefully, hack the planet.

Applicants must have Australia Citizenship, Australian permanent residency or NZ citizenship at time of application.

 

On your first day, we'll expect you to:

  • Be able to commit to a 12 week full-time (40hrs / week) internship from late November 2019 until late February 2020 ( We may be able to flex on this slightly if your course timetable does not allow for a 12 week placement during this timeframe).
  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program, returning to the program after the completion of the internship and graduating by January 2021.
  • Have experience with Java, Python, JavaScript, or other related object-oriented programming languages
  • Be comfortable writing code to get things done and not depend on third party products
  • View capture the flags competitions, crack-mes, and "unbreakable" products as challenges to your honor, hacking at them until they yield

It’s great, but not required, if you:

  • Have a real passion for software engineering, as demonstrated by previous internships, work experience, projects, or publications
  • Deep understanding of data structures, in particular how they are implemented and how to apply them to solve problems
  • Familiarity with the application of common design patterns
